Part of the Antique Series by Loxley Books, this rebound edition is crafted to evoke the timeless beauty of centuries-old books. The leather binding has been carefully treated to replicate the natural patina that develops over time, giving it the character and charm of a well-aged heirloom. The covers feature hand-marbled papers, creating a classic half-binding design reminiscent of traditional antique books. This combination of rich leather and historic marbling techniques ensures both a vintage aesthetic and enduring quality. This rebind features premium calf leather with an antiquing process that enhances the natural scuffs, scratches, and marks, giving it a beautifully aged and timeworn character. These variations are intentional and add to the vintage aesthetic. If you prefer a more pristine finish, my Classic Range offers a cleaner, unblemished look.

Features:

- Half leather - antique brown calf (this can alternatively be created in Black/Brown or Mahogany)

If you're interested in the production process -

Starting with Originals: Each book begins with the purchase of its original version, ensuring authors and publishers receive their due royalties.

Preparation of Text Block: The book cover is carefully removed, leaving the text block ready for enhancement.

Adding Endpapers: Endpapers are attached and trimmed to ensure alignment with the rest of the pages.

Preparing for Re-Casing: Outer edges of the text block are sanded down, and the spine is tidied up to prepare for re-casing. This is the point that page edges are painted/speckled.

Enhancements: Components such as bookmark ribbon and headbands are attached, and mull material is added to strengthen the joints and hinges of the new hardcover. Some larger books have extra spine stiffener for further strength and support.

Creating the Cover: Custom cover boards and spine are precisely cut to fit the dimensions of the text block.

Special Features: Some books feature raised bands on the spine, reminiscent of historical library books, crafted from slim pieces of leather.

Selection and Skiving of Leather: Leather of approximately 1.0mm thickness is chosen for its tactile quality. Areas needing reduced thickness undergo delicate skiving to ensure functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Assembly and Pressing: Once prepared, the leather is carefully attached to the cover boards and spine, and placed in a nipping press for up to 24 hours to ensure a secure bond.

Casing-In: Text block endpapers are attached to the covers, also known as ‘paste downs’.

Final Pressing: The assembled book undergoes another round of pressing in the nipping press and is left to dry completely for an additional 24 hours.

Finishing Touches: Foiling and labeling are applied to personalise and enhance the book’s appearance.

Completion: Each book is finished and prepared, ready to be enjoyed by you.
